Lumion 2023 - R&D Preview: ReSTIR for Ray Tracing
Learn about the research and development for Lumion being undertaken by the Development Team.
This (quarterly) Lumion Community article, published Sep 27, 2023, explains the technology being researched using ReSTIR (Reservoir Spatio-Temporal Importance Resampling). This technology emerges as a game-changer. Designed to amplify the capabilities of Path Tracing—a technique that emulates the way light travels in the real world to produce lifelike images then ReSTIR can be a transformative feature for Lumion.
Traditional Path Tracing often grapples with the challenges of computational intensity, leading to grainy, noisy images, especially in intricate lighting scenarios. To resolve those situations, ReSTIR is employed as a method of sampling and resampling light sources.
